How Do I Prune Roses?

by Julie
(Germantown, TN)

How do I prune this thing?

How do I prune this thing?

We moved to the Memphis area four months ago and your show was one of the very first we heard. We were moving in on a Saturday morning and had a radio set up on the counter to listen for the weather.

Here is my question. There is a rose bush here that the owner planted 15 years ago, they said it was called a "Mr. Lincoln". It is so fragrant and has the most beautiful big red blooms.

The problem is that the plant has looks to have gotten out of hand, if it were on a trellis it would reach the eves of the house. We have never lived in the south and honestly, we don't know a thing about gardening! How do I prune this? And the follow up question is when do I prune it? Can I do it now or do I have to wait until fall?

Bokashi Buckets

This Fall I have been working on some new raised beds for use this coming Spring. They have provided a convenient spot to put all those leaves falling off the maple tree.

Earlier this year I began using Bokashi Buckets to recycle all our kitchen waste. I always thought it was a shame that I couldn't do something constructive with all the orange peels we generate in our household. Bokashi Buckets have provided a perfect solution and a great way to build soil in the raised beds all throughout the winter. Bokashi Buckets are a great alternative to composting, especially in the winter months.
