Comparison of Organic Fertilizers and Synthetic Chemicals

How do I make a comparison between organic and chemical fertilizers?

  • Organics are Safe & Sound!

Synthetic Chemicals contain toxic chemicals that have been linked to numerous health conditions including cancer and birth defects.

  • Organic Fertilizer is stable in the soil. It is chelated, meaning that what is not instantly absorbed by the plant remains in the soil and becomes available as the plant needs it.

Synthetic Fertilizer must be watered into the ground immediately or it will burn the plant. Only a small portion is actually used and the rest leeches off. This leeching pollutes nearby groundwater sources and is the major cause of algae overgrowth in our streams, ponds and rivers.

  • Organic fertilizers enable naturally occurring micro-organisms to flourish. Corn Gluten Meal is an excellent fertilizer (9-0-0) and has extensive testing has shown it provides superior weed control when used as directed.

Chemical fertilizers often use "2-4-D" It was one of two components of the defoliant known as "Agent Orange" in Vietnam. There are veterans who still suffer today from exposure to 2-4-D. And you want it on your lawn for you to track in your house, or your kids. Pets that are exposed to lawn chemicals have up to a five times increase in acquiring cancer. (They ingest it by licking their paws)

The EPA regulates the use of these chemicals. It is a hazardous material that must be shipped under strict regulations. Did you know that if shipment of chemicals to your chemical lawn company is involved in a traffic accident, by federal law it becomes an emergency HAZ-MAT response situation? Wonder why your lawn care company can carry the same products to your doorstep without warnings of the hazards to you, your family or the environment?

  • USDA Certified Organic Fertilizers are used by nurseries, growers and farmers to increase their yields and lower costs, while increasing the soils fertility and meeting USDA Certified Organic standards.

When you begin to examine the facts, it is plain to see that there are vast differences between the two fertilizers including price. Organic fertilizer are not only safer and more effective but in the long run are actually less expensive.

Organics are the only way we can maintain a sustainable future for our environment.
