Scotts Turf Builder Seeding Soil
Unfortunately, this is yet another recycled waste product being sold as 'soil'. There is nothing soil about it! They have used something to dye or color this product dark so that it has a more uniform color and the appearance of actual soil.
My sympathies for the unwary homeowners who unwittingly purchase this thinking they are going to fix a problem spot on their lawn. Or worse; use it as container soil. There is no possible way that what is in this bag has any resemblance to the picture on the outside. How do these companies get away with this year after year? Slick marketing and uneducated consumers! The term false advertising springs to mind, but at least they aren't calling it organic so I'll give them credit for that much.

Bokashi Buckets
This Fall I have been working on some new raised beds for use this coming Spring. They have provided a convenient spot to put all those leaves falling off the maple tree.
Earlier this year I began using Bokashi Buckets to recycle all our kitchen waste. I always thought it was a shame that I couldn't do something constructive with all the orange peels we generate in our household. Bokashi Buckets have provided a perfect solution and a great way to build soil in the raised beds all throughout the winter. Bokashi Buckets are a great alternative to composting, especially in the winter months.
