New Delta Cotton Burr Compost

New Delta Recyclers 100% cotton burr compost (AKA 'Black Gold") is this weeks product under review

This product is made in Tunica, Mississippi and is distributed through nurseries and garden centers through out the Mid-South region by the Wax Company in Amory, MS.

Let's take a look.

Looking at this bag you see the only ingredient is 100% cotton burr compost. I like that. It means no fillers, no animal waste and no ground up pallets. And of course, my pre-requisite, NO chemicals!

Let's take a look at how New Delta stood up to the screen test..

Nearly everything passed through the screen. To be fair what little you see on the screen I was able to crumble in my hand. I'll have to take the screen off and let you get a better look at this.

Incredible. This is the richest looking compost that I have ever seen. It's hard to believe that this is sold for under $10.00 a bag!

That brings up an important fact that deserves some special consideration. This product is pure compost. It is not a "mix" so you'll want to mix it with some of your native soil, or another organic material such as coconut fiber or pearlite if you are going to use it for container gardens.

Seeing is believing! This truly is an incredible product. It has a pleasant, earthy aroma and the rich dark color is natural, it hasn't been dyed black.

I give New Delta Recyclers, 100% cotton burr compost a big TWO THUMBS UP!

Bokashi Buckets

This Fall I have been working on some new raised beds for use this coming Spring. They have provided a convenient spot to put all those leaves falling off the maple tree.

Earlier this year I began using Bokashi Buckets to recycle all our kitchen waste. I always thought it was a shame that I couldn't do something constructive with all the orange peels we generate in our household. Bokashi Buckets have provided a perfect solution and a great way to build soil in the raised beds all throughout the winter. Bokashi Buckets are a great alternative to composting, especially in the winter months.
