Harvesting heirloom potatoes

Recently I got home from some appointments and immediately went out into the back yard and the gardens.  It was 71 degrees warm and the sun was shining nicely!

I decided to get my camera and take one last tour before winter officially hit and most everything goes dormant.

Then I remembered...

the two potato plants that had self seeded in one of my raised beds.

I realized it was now or never.

As I started pulling away the dirt with my hands I was pleased to find a few nice potatoes.

After I got the first few pulled out of the soil it exposed even more.  That is when I got serious and went inside to change into garden clothes.

Not bad for two unexpected plants!

Fall is on the way

Remember, chemicals kill more than just pesky weeds.
